One month under our belt …

July 29, 2010

A lot has happened in one month, we opened our doors June 28th and things could not be going better. Sales are picking up steadily and we are evolving our menu a bit to fit the needs of our valued regular customers. Have been receiving consistent positive feedback on the coffees and have been bringing in some excellent coffees in the past month.

We have taken on a handful of cool wholesale accounts and are excited to start working with more coffee bars, restaurants, dive bars and community spaces who want to serve excellent locally crafted coffees.

We had our surprise health inspection today and scored 100% … gold stars for our crew.

We are also looking at expanding our hours a bit, and have applied for a beer and wine license for those who want to come in and hang out in a loft style coffee roastery space in the evenings, in between cocktails and killer food from our new neighbors at Bunk Bar, planing to open mid August.

Thanks to all who have supported the shop and made it thru our 1st month of transitions and growing pains. We are now taking credit cards as well!

Come on in and let us know what you think. We are here to meet the needs of our customers, serve the best damn coffee we can roast and brew per cup, and satisy a social need while effecting buying practices on a global scale.

Thanks again for the support!

– Matt

When it rains we pour …

April 13, 2010

Water Avenue Coffee is super stoked to have such a great team and we are thrilled to be offering a great selection of pour over coffees daily as well as our espresso menu and Chemex into carafe as our only drip. While Drew Woods pours perfect capps and lattes, Tom Pikaart has been blowing minds with his pour over Hario fanaticism. Today we implemented a pre–portioned coffee method in dated, air tight containers from Coffee Vac to the pour over routine. We feel that everyone should be able to enjoy a freshly ground and hand poured cup of WAC coffee, and are implementing a way to make it a more streamlined process.

Exciting times down on Water Avenue. Come on by to try from our market price coffee menu currently featuring 5 coffees from Ethiopia, Sumatra, Rwanda, Honduras and Colombia.

Temporary Coffee is Open

April 3, 2010

Temporary Coffee is open at 1028 SE Water Avenue. We are extremely stoked to have Tom Pikaart (www.pouredover.com) and Drew Woods (Vivace) on board serving killer espresso and coffees. We are rocking 8 and 12 oz drinks, no menu board, pour over and chemex only for drip, serving coffees from WAC and espresso from OLY. Our hours are 7:30-5ish Monday-Friday. The goal is to transition from the Temporary Coffee space into the Water Avenue Coffee Factory in a month or so, but in the meantime, provide our neighbors with excellent coffee.

We have a small selection of delicious pastries from Pearl Bakery, Pie from Pie Spot, teas from Steven Smith Tea Co. and a big bowl of oranges. Come late in the day and you may find a stray Tecate in fridge, and Matt, Brandon and Bruce on one of the leather sofas.

Street 14 is open

February 22, 2010

It has been a fun few months working with Street 14 in Astoria, OR and helping them open the coolest new coffee bar in Oregon. Denise is the first official Water Avenue Coffee account, and currently the ONLY place where you can buy WAC Coffee.

Her shop is beautiful, and a designers dream … a perfect fit for the launch of WAC’s branding efforts and first round of coffees. We have 4 single origins, and espresso blend and a decaf on tap.

“The coffee is amazing, the food offering is incredible and the staff warm and friendly! It was really cool to be in the hotel lobby looking into a buzzing cafe!
Clearly a formidable partner in our success to come!
It’s been a long costly winter at the hotel – As a package – the cafe should complete an all ready compelling experience!
Water Ave’s coffee is spot on in their branding and identity- bought a bag for
French press at home.” Says Brian, a partner of the Commodore Hotel, where Street 14 rests in it’s main floor and lobby.

There is no other way to read a Hardy Boy’s mystery than with a wholesome and sober cup of decaf coffee. Tackling Nancy Drew, on the other hand, requires a quart of gin.
